On Tuesday, cyber security intelligence firm CloudSEK revealed that in 2021, the Indian healthcare industry recorded the second highest rate of cyber-attacks with 7.7 % of total incidence. CloudSEK is one of the agencies that provides cyber threat intelligence to the Indian cyber security watchdog CERT-In. According to the CloudSEK report on "Increased cyber-attacks on the global healthcare sector," the U.S. healthcare industry faced 28% of the total global attacks. The report also noted that 7.7 percent of cyber-attack incidents in the Indian healthcare industry translated to over 71 lakh records.

According to the report, technological advancements in the healthcare industry, such as remote health monitoring, electronic health records, and the Internet of Things (IoT), provided cyber criminals with opportunities to attack the sector. The data also showed that in India, 1.87 lakh attacks have already been recorded in the first four months of 2022. However, at a global level, the trend has seen a change in 2022, with Australia being the most-hit country with around 70 crore records, followed by Thailand, which has faced over 10 crore records in the first four months of 2022.
